Indigenous Allyship 101 In-Person

Join guest speaker Bianca Timmerman, of Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation, for an introduction to Indigenous allyship, designed to foster understanding, respect and effective allyship with Indigenous communities. At 12pm, we will hold space exclusively for Indigenous community members. At 1pm, we invite all other members of our community to engage in an open session with our guest speaker.

Please note that photography or recordings of any kind will not be allowed throughout the duration of this event.

Program Details:

  • Space for Indigenous Community Members: The first hour of this event is open exclusively to Indigenous folks and will provide a sacred space for sharing, connecting and supporting one another in a safe environment.
  • Open Session on Allyship: Following at 1pm, this event will open up to everyone. Bianca will lead us in an insightful and engaging session on how to be an effective ally to Indigenous people and how to meaningfully engage with reconciliation. Topics covered will include the historical and contemporary context of relations between Indigenous community members and settlers, recognition of systemic barriers and prejudices, and practical steps for all of us to support and advocate for Indigenous rights and sovereignty in today's context.
  • Drop In: Registration is not required; just drop in!

Please join us for this important opportunity to learn, grow and become a more effective ally to Indigenous communities. Your participation helps to build a more inclusive society for all.
